Nick Davies
THREE THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT NICK:
- During his PhD, Nick spent two weeks on Ascension Island obtaining airborne measurements of smoke plumes overlying the south-east Atlantic Ocean.
- He loves trying new Belgian beers.
- Nick is an enthusiastic badminton player, though accepts that his talents lie elsewhere.
EXPERIENCE:
Nick is experienced in advising clients of all sizes in relation to their intellectual property rights and has experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a wide range of technology including medical devices, 2D and 3D printing systems, computer networks, telecommunications and engineering.
During Nick’s final year project of his master’s degree, he developed a novel waveguide system for generating and detecting orbital angular momentum and, while studying for his PhD, he worked with colleagues at the Met Office to develop state-of-the-art instrumentation for measuring optical properties of atmospheric aerosol particles. As a result of Nick’s research, he acquired an in-depth understanding of a range of aerosol measurement techniques including photoacoustic spectroscopy, cavity ringdown spectroscopy, filter-based absorption photometry, optical particle counting, and differential mobility analysis, and has authored and co-authored several scientific publications relating to the testing and deployment of these technologies.
